French to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general) / assay minutes - interfere
French term or phrase: ensemencements
This is in a study (minutes of an assay) to test the bactericidal power of a substance against a particular microbe, and this is done using what appears to be called a 'metal plate study', with agar jelly. The solution of the disinfectant is tested:
'...avec ensemencements reiteres et adjonctions successives de substance interferente proteique.'
'ensemencements', of course, literally, means 'sowings', (although that sounds a bit odd in the plural in any case), but I have also found 'inoculations' or possibly it should just be referred to as a 'metal plate study', (although I don't know how you would then include 'reiterated').
Later in the notes it refers to the number of bacteria added (by 'ensemencement') which are then counted after 15 minutes.
Later still, there is a table where one of the columns is headed 'Denombrement de l'inoculum', so I thought it might be incorrect to translate 'ensemencements' as inoculations.

English translation:inoculation
Explanation:
repeated inoculation. Metal plate doesn't sound right: what's the French. Perhaps dénombrement sur plaque > plate-count method?

réitéré is probably in the sense of a series of agar plates.

Yes, I'd use it in the singular. Also, par inclusion is by the pour-plate method, and don't use jelly - just agar or agar medium

Notes to answerer
Asker: Yes, I think it is plate count method. The bacteria are counted 'soit par inclusions en milieu gelose Plate Count Agar(xxxxx...), soit par filtrations sur membranes blanches, quadrillees....et depot des membranes sur ce meme milieu gelose...'adding another chemical. So perhaps, either way, this could be called 'plate count method'. However, for the translation of 'ensemencements', if it is OK to use 'inoculation' (singular?), I think that works better.
