I'm translating a manual for software used to control a diamond penetrator and there are a couple of terms I'm not confident enough to translate well. Any help would be greatly appreciated:
z approche : c’est la distance d’approche du pénétrateur qui sera parcourue à grande vitesse (avant le contact avec la pièce), en µm.
Vit. approche : c’est la vitesse de descente du pénétrateur sur la distance z approche (avant le contact avec la pièce).

agree  chris collister: Definitely - the stiffness of some materials, polymers especially, are "rate dependent", so the speed matters.
