French to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Metallurgy / Casting / galvanization | | French term or phrase: potence fixe | Hot-dip galvanization workshop:
Accrochage (hooking up) : L’accrochage des pièces se fait sous des palonniers qui sont posés sur des potences fixes. Il y a plusieurs jeux de potences fixes.
Et plus loin : Il nous semble indispensable de mettre une potence d’attente entre le bain de fluxage et le bain de zinc. |

| | English translation:fixed posts/columns/supports | Explanation: (I read between the lines).
The pieces to be galvanized are attached to (suspended from) jigs or palonniers, a set of connected bars from which large numbers of items can be suspended. This palonnier, which will have four (probably) lifting points for stability, can then be craned into position so that the items dangle in the molten zinc.
But so has not to immobilize the crane during the "hooking up" operation, each palonnier is placed on a set of posts or columns of the requisite height (un jeu de potences as you text says) while nimble fingers working from below attach the items.
Bref, the hot-dip galvanizing equivalent of a PLP which, when I was a boy, could mean either "polite little person" or "public leaning post".
However there might be a highly fangled trade term for such potences, so keep looking! |
