Tech/Engineering - Metallurgy / Casting
French term or phrase: piege
In a forging specification:

Lors d’un contrôle par courants de Foucault et magnétoscopie, l’utilisation de pièces « pièges » est impérative.

I can't find in this context.

faulty
Explanation:
Chris, I can only assume, from the scanty context, that "pièces pièges" are faulty parts or parts with a flaw that they introduce on purpose from time to time to make sure the test equipment is working correctly.

Finally, in factories, Edie sees a trend to increased use of on-line process control that employs EC test and gaging. In these control systems, flaws can be detected, analyzed, and reported rapidly, and faulty processes upstream--e.g., casting, forging, or powder-metal compaction--can be shut down and corrected before too many bad parts are made.
