This is part of an underwater speargun that needs to be "released" when changing the muzzle unit. I'm not sure if it's simply referring to the shaft or if I've missed something.

"Ce système se présente sous la forme d'un module interchangeable. Il peut être remplacé par des modules conventionnels (tête ouverte ou fermée) qui sont disponibles en option. Pour changer de module, *libérer l'axe de retenue.* Le XXX est protégé par un brevet mondial."
