Military / Defense
French term or phrase: Repère en 8
As far as I can tell, this is a grade level for training of Military Air Transport pilots in France. It appears as the title of a booklet for recording marks of pilots being tested. There are a few references to this term on various forums by air force personnel but not much official. Can anyone explain what it refers to and what might be the English equivalent?

qualification level 8

Explanation:
- le 1er chiffre représente la catégorie d'emploi ;
- le 2e chiffre définit la spécialité ;
- le 3e chiffre définit la sous-spécialité ;
- le 4e chiffre définit la spécialisation ;
- le 5e chiffre détermine le niveau de qualification ; (This is the ''repère'')
- le 6e chiffre détermine l'étape de qualification.

See page 7 of this document:
http://www.boc.sga.defense.gouv.fr/pdf/2010/2010_013_p_defl1...

The ''repère'' can be 2, 4, 5, 6, or 8.

The ''repère'' is a classification that puts military personnel in job categories.

Aircraft commander

Explanation:
