French to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Music / broadcasting
French term or phrase: organisme diffuseur
Referring to an original composition and "les utilisations faites par des organismes diffuseurs"

"Broadcasters" springs to mind but I'm concerned this may limit to TV and radio. I'm searching for something less restrictive that also sounds natural. So far I have ruled out diffusing/circulating/transmitting bodies/organisations.

Many thanks.

In view of your clarification, I think the best choice would be simply "the broadcasters". But you had already considered and dismissed the term.

Or "distributors" - but they don't play the music, they sell it.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi Fiorsam and thanks for all your input. I'm not convinced by "distributors" for the reason you give. My only concern about "broadcasters" is that it would be limited to radio/TV and I don't know if that is specifically what is being referred to here. As it stands, it may be my best solution though...

Explanation:
Based, SP, on your note, this is A word you want to use - what putteth the P in ASCAP. What word you put with it (to replace 'organisms') is unclear to me - maybe a laundry list (orchestras, bands, groups, individual artists), maybe with the word "performing" + that short list, maybe 'formations' (which I don't much like) or even organizations (tho that doesn't sound very musical).

Is the original composer trying to prevent something, like sampling?

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks Jeffrey. My note was misleading (apologies). I meant "play" in the sense of "passer" or "faire écouter" rather than perform. The "bodies" in question are the radio shows, TV channels etc. who play the music to their audiences. Otherwise "performer" would have been spot-on!
