Art/Literary - Music
French term or phrase: multidiffusion
I assume this means going beyond stereo, multiple sound sources. It is in experimental music. Sound technician biography.

"il poursuit alors un travail de mise en son autour de la multidiffusion, en s'imprégnant de réalisations développées avec la compagnie "Brayses" (pyrotechnie) ou le collectif "Nature Artificielle" (installations et performances acoustiques expérimentales). "

Asker: Yes, it is used on French sites, and only French sites and translated sites. Not very credible for English.

"Multicasting" seems to be the equivalent to "multidiffusion", but both terms seem to be used mostly in fairly technical internet contexts and I'm not sure if that's the sense here.

In any case, I don't think this is about going 'beyond stereo', which is about parts of the one sound 'channel' (beyond stereo in that case would be 'surround sound'), whereas what is suggested here is multiple channels - ie the simultaneous broadcast of different sound sources rather than the different parts of one sound source - something like 'multimedia' in the sound domain.

"Simultaneous broadcast of multiple sound media" would be my stab at what this means here.

neutral  David Vaughn: As you imply, multicasting is a broadcasting term, not used in live music, as seems to be the case here.

-> You're right it's a guess, but I don't think broadcasting and live performance are necessarily incompatible in this context.
