Essence and authentic seem like quite different concepts to me (though there may sometimes be an overlap) - and I see usage in the two languages following essentially the same pattern on both words. "Essence" is the intrinsic nature of something - authentic is referring to something outside the object - a tradition, history or personal take.
What misapprehension do you see in authentic that isn't also true of authentique? Using "essence" seems like going for the stock phrase instead of honouring a more subtle - or at least less cliched - idea. |
