how stupid of me - I didn't realise that "àune" was a typo for "à une"!!!! Now it makes far more sense. Thanks everyone and please excuse my slowness.

Surely this is referring literally to the dragon Fafner in ,,Der Ring des Nibelungen", and the critic appears to think that the stage monster wasn't very convincing and looked more like a rascasse — while being an interesting fish, perhaps not very frightening as a villainous dragon!
