region Explanation: I just came across the word "foyer" in NTC's Dictionary of Faux Amis. Foyer: In addition to foyer of a theatre, its chief meaning is home or hearth. Can also mean a club or centre, and the centre of an outbreak. From there, I deducted that the word "region" might fit your context. I hope this does not come too late. NTC Dict. of Faux Amis |

"sources" or "centres" (or maybe by extension "areas" or "zones") Explanation: Basically, this means the place where domestication has its origin or its centre. Your sentence might read: "...depending on the areas where domestication found its source, the role played by such and such wild cat specie..." or "... depending on the centre of origin of domestication..." just some suggestions. http://www.ankhonline.com/egypte1.htm |
