French term or phrase: carnet personnel d’orthographe d’usage
This has to do with a student who is so interested in making sure he is spelling everything right that he doesn't pay any attention to how he is structuring his composition. I'm not at all sure what, exactly, this student is looking up words in. Could it be a notebook where he keeps his spelling lists?

"Il l’a vu interrompre à maintes reprises sa rédaction pour consulter son carnet personnel d’orthographe d’usage, un dictionnaire ou encore le fichier de la classe."

spelling repetoire

Explanation:
My daughter (9years) has a spelling repetoire, listed from a to z and each time they learn a new word, it is written in this small exercise book. I can only assume that the 'carnet...' is based on this system

neutral  ydmills: what do you mean byn 'common'?
4 mins
-> For 'd'usage'. Don't forget that English with its many versions has many spelling differences. What is d'usage in the US is not in the UK. Common is used also to suggest concise, i.e. only the most frequent spellings.
