What doesn't kill you will cure you. Explanation: This isn't a literal translation, but this is what we would say in this context in the USA. Also, "it will either cure you or kill you", there are a couple of versions, and I suppose you could make it impersonal by substituting "one" for "you." |

What doesn't kill you will make you stronger Explanation: This is the version I know. In my experience, this is the most common version used in the US. It is closer to the version in French and also to the version in Portuguese, which goes like this: O que não mata engorda. |
