French term or phrase: stage d'insertion
In an article about problem kids working in a boat-building competition. Similarly, the article talks about this 'chantier d'insertion' and 'stage de reinsertion.' Does anybody know any one of these terms?

English translation:insertion/reinsertion project/programme
Explanation:
The term "insertion" and "réinsertion" are the same in English and French in this context (cf. www.granddictionnaire.com, the social definition of the term).

Here's an URL to a page on the ANPE (the French national/governmental job agency)where you will find a lot of info about different types of "stages", notably the type you are interested in.

http://www.anpe.fr/infos/infosdem/rub2d.htm

Various groups of people in difficulty may in entitled to apply for a place on a specific type of project, they receive certain advantages in turn. For some it really manages to get them going again, for others it's a first chance !

"chantier" is a boatyard/shipyard. So your "chantier d'insertion" is the the yard in which the boat being renovated by the kids is being worked on.
chantier d'insertion = reinsertion programme boatyard (or possible, less specoifically "site", if teh same term is used to describe the places where other similar, non-boaty, projects are operating).

I appreciated the references most of all. Going through those will help me to figure out how to word it in English.
Thanks!

'stage de reinsertion

Explanation:
I have done work in French with people who had suffered traumatic brain injuries. 'stage de reinsertion" was often used to mean a reintegration or rehabilitation programme. The whole idea of insertion/reinsertion is the idea of integrating or re-integrating people into the workforce.

job centre training, etc.

Explanation:
That's for adults, for kids, it would be something like community work or vocational training, depending on whether emphasis is on training or on working.

The translation given by Robert & Collins for STAGE DE RéINSERTION is "retraining course"

stage de réinsertion = rehabilitation phase of a programme;

Explanation:
there may be other phases, such as initial psychoanalysis. "Chantier" generally designates a workshop, where there are activities.

I've worked with drug rehab (for a psychiatrist uncle), but I imagine the terms are the same.
