This is a police report from Switzerland about an accident in which a person was killed by a train. The names of various officers are given. There is also mention of ***l'app. [last name]*** of the CIR-Ouest [Centre d'intervention de l'Ouest].

Can't figure out what the abbreviation means. TIA.

neutral  writeaway: Appointé est un grade militaire dont l'importance dans la hiérarchie des sous-officiers varie selon le pays. Il est en général attribué à un soldat et fait partie des premiers grades possibles how does this fit in with the context? (quote from your ref)

  -> I don't think it has to fit... but it explains what "l'app." means in this text. It should probably be translated as "police officer + name" for I think "appointé", here, simply corresponds to "agent de police"
