French term or phrase: ravir du gibier
Le jeudi 25 février 2010, XXX eut de la chance. Pendant que les assaillants s’enivraient, elle fut sauvée par une des femmes des assaillants, apparemment de la même tribu qu’eux. Elle lui demanda de l’accompagner à la rivière ; puis, après lui avoir montré les têtes de plusieurs autres tués avant, elle lui révéla que ce jour là était son tour d’être tuée. Elle lui donna alors le conseil de s’enfuir en suivant le lit de la rivière. Elle suivit donc la rivière et arriva vers Katana au bout de quatre jours et quatre nuits. Au bout de la forêt, elle trouva un petit homme qui apparemment fuyait aussi quelque chose : c’était un pygmée à qui des interahamwe venaient de ravir du gibier. C’est cet homme qui l’a conduite jusque dans le village. C’est aussi cet homme qui lui dit que le village s’appelait Katana.


I am not sure whether this phrase actually does mean that the pygmy was captured for use as game - could this be possible? I don't know what else it could mean, but I'd be very grateful for any opinions. It's from the same text as yesterday's question about the lady stabbed in the armpit before being raped...
