French to English translations [PRO]
Other / Title of an organization
French term or phrase: oeuvre
I couldn't figure out what category to put this in...

It's the title of a charitable organization, called "Oeuvre _______" (the second part is just a person's last name, I believe). In the document I'm translated it's just listed as one of the participants in a conference, so no other context to provide.

The translation of oeuvre into work doesn't really seem to fit, so I was wondering if anyone had seen this format before for the name of an organization. I looked at their website and part of their goal is to create a foundation, so I can't use that term. It's not clear whether they have non-profit status or not.

Has anyone come across this term before and have suggestions on how to translate it?

Thanks so much.

English translation:Oeuvre
Explanation:
From your description, it soundslike the official name of a charity organization. I would leave it in French "Oeuvre XXXXX YYYYYY." I might consider providing a translation within brackets: ["XXXXX YYYYYY Charity organization."]

[charity] programme

Explanation:
I see "oeuvre" as having the same meaning as in "oeuvre caritative", which I would usually translate as "charity work". Since you prefer not to use "work", I suggest using "Programme" or "Charity Programme".

Asker: I was tempted not to translate but seemed like a bit of a cop out - but with so many votes for leaving as is, I'm willing to go with that. Thanks!

agree  Nikki Scott-Despaigne: It is a proper noun. To do anything but leave it in its original language would be a mistake.

Mission ____ (person's last name)

Explanation:
Hello,

Not necessarily affiliated with a religious, but often is.

œuvre = mission (here, imho)

As already suggested, you could leave it untranslated, I suppose, but I don't know why you couldn't translate it.

Notes to answerer
Asker: I was tempted to put mission but it didn't feel quite right (maybe because of the religious connotation which is predominant).
