How can someone believe such BS?

depends on content of article - apparently based on testimony or opinion of someone who had a bad marital experience and sounds pretty desillusioned and upset - so why not ? connerie is not that nice either - even less when monumentale

I would phrase it from another angle to engage the readers more directly:

"can you believe how insane that is?" or "how insane is that?"

or "can you believe that load of crap?"
or "what a load/bunch of crap!"

I think these expressions suit the context and they are very commonly used in English to refer to a ridiculous notion (at least in the United States).
