Red pepper or hot pepper (piment) vs. bell or sweet pepper (poivron) Explanation: I know it is confusing. In fact, inFrench Canada, the sweet peppers are also called "piments" (piment vert, piment rouge, etc.) instead of poivrons, and red peppers are called piments forts. Go figure... |

Chilli pepper , green peppers/bell peppers Explanation: TERMIUM gives "chilli pepper" for "piment" and I agree with the other answer that "poivron" would basically be green peppers (although they may also include red, yellow, etc) in which case "bell peppers" might work. |
