One of the "grandes écoles" which hisotircally trains those who will hold the most senior posts in French industry, administration (ENA = "énarques") and so on. Entrance to these schools is through a competitive exam or "concours", so dear to the French. It's hard to get in and only the top-notch cream of the cream make it through the selection process. The graduates of these schools are referred to as "des X". It's a sort of shorthand which is commonly-understood by native French speakers.

You should leave it as is (if only for the continental charm aspect) but you might like to add something along the lines of : "the year 2000 promotion".
