French term or phrase: usure de passage
I have provisionally translated the above as "wear and tear of passage". However, I am unhappy with the word "passage" which refers to what the feet of visitors damage at an ancient site, i.e pavements, streets, the floors of buildings with large surface areas and walls when feet clamber over them.

Can anyone think of anything more suitable?
