Department of Industry Explanation: The Department of Trade and Industry in the UK has a very wide remit so it would be best not to use that full term. Also possible, Ministry of Industry or Industry Ministry, though it sounds a bit odd. |

Ministry for Industry Explanation: Secrétariat d’état à l’industrie. Just as the DTI (www.dti.gov.uk) covers trade and industry (with its wide-ranging areas of responsibility, as indicated by Colin), the French MINEFI http://www.minefi.gouv.fr/) is also wide-ranging, the Secrétariat d'État à l'Industrie relating only to industry here of course. According to the English version of the MINEFI site : http://www.minefi.gouv.fr/minefi/minefi_ang/index.htm the « official » version of Ministère de l’Economie, des Finances et de l’Industrie is : « Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industry » http://www.industrie.gouv.fr/cgi-bin/industrie/FranceTech/v_... « Ministry for Industry » used here in reference to the Secrétariat d’Etat à l’Industrie. If you apply the same principle and ask what the UK custom is when referring only to the Industry part of the DTI ? Answer ? They never seem to be separated. The MINEFI and the DTI are not exact equivalents although there are some overlapping functions of course. I suspect that is why the official site uses Ministry fro Industry as it is never the less an accurate and understandable description of the function. If your audience is purely UK, then there may be some argument for using Department of Trade, but Ministry is more global and equally well understood.
