isolated vs. isolate yourself Explanation: I prefer "isolate yourself" here. Here's why... One the one hand, if you "isolate yourself" you are the one who is responsible for it. This does not necessarily imply either a deliberate choice nor indeed any fault on the part of the person concerned. On the other hand, a person can "become isolated" in spite if major efforts to avoid being isoslated. There is no element of choice - nor of fault of course - but it really suggests that others have decided not to approach this person. I believe that this is an important distinction to make, in view of what follows. |
