French term or phrase: alternance
Dear Friends,

I wonder if you could help clear up incertainty about the above term. I know that it means "alternation" but I am unsure if this is the correct translation in the context found in this patent.

Below is context for this term. Any help will be very appreciated in making the correct choice for translation of this term as it appears in the context:

- on effectue trois mesures sur une <<alternance>> donnée, une mesure B s'effectuant dans une zone où cette mesure évolue très peu tant que la lime se trouve à distance en amont de l'apex et évolue davantage à proximité immédiate de l'apex, une mesure D s'effectuant sensiblement à la fin de <<l'alternance>>, et une mesure C s'effectuant dans l'intervalle compris entre la mesure B et la mesure D ;

Procédé selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce que l'on effectue une mesure A au début de <<l'alternance>> afin de recalcar l'origine, la formule devenant :

Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 4, caractérisé en ce que les mesures sont effectuées sur une <<alternance>> positive.

Thank you in advance,

Laura

half-cycle
Explanation:
In electronic waveform analysis, the usual term would be 'half-cycle'. For example, the last phrase of the quoted text would be:

"... les mesures sont effectuées sur une <<alternance>> positive"
-->
" ... the measurements are taken on a positive-going half-cycle"

But I don't know if that term would usually be used in your context.

Explanation:
Hello,

This is how I understand it. I could be wrong. This wording may work. If I have the meaning right, it does sound like natural English. LOL.

sur = on...basis

donné = specified herein (that information is provided herein)

I hope this helps.
