De forme conique ou tronconique les molettes sont pourvues de dents dont la résistance à l'abrasion est augmentée par un revêtement de carbure de tungstène. Dans certaines molettes les dents sont remplacées par des bâtonnets de carbure de tungstène sertis dans la masse et dont l'extrémité extérieure à profil hémisphérique affleure à la surface de l'acier.

Explanation:
Guesswork again, but I did come across a "propipette à molette", a sort of volume-adjustable pipette.

The closest I came in a quick search is "pipette filler", though the examples of this I found had rubber poires and no molette that I could see.

Wikipedia also has this:

which refers to molettes.

It is POSSIBLE that such devices are used to withdraw a specimen of the product in each tank compartment for identification.

Does "identifying the contents" involve placing a sign on the compartment, in the certain knowledge that it is what it is said to be, or testing the contents to determine/check it is what it is said to be?
