French to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Petroleum Eng/Sci / instructiions for tanker
French term or phrase:sellete
ordre de chargement des compartiments: sellete en 1er
This comes up under hydrocarbures, bonnes pratques métier pendant chargement. All I can find is fifth wheel.
Explanation: The fifth wheel being, of course the plate at the back of a tractor unit to which the semi-trailer is attached, and at which the trailer pivots, thus acting like a wheel.
It would make sense to fill the compartment above the fifth-wheel (at the front of the tanker trailer) first. This would put weight on the attachment. Filling the back compartment first might cause the trailer to pull up at the front, putting strains on the fifth wheel that it is not designed to take.
Don't know that one says "fifth-wheel compartment" though

front compartment
Since the front compartment is unloaded last here, it makes sense that it should be loaded first:
In general, a downloaded tank will be less stable under cornering and braking conditions, a factor drivers need to know for safe driving of the unit. When unloading a transport, always unload the smallest compartment last if there is a possibility that the entire contents may not be unloaded. Start unloading with the center of the transport, UNLOADING THE FRONT COMPARTMENT LAST. http://www.pmaa.org/weeklyreview/attachments/AftertheRollove...'sTooLate.pdf
Fuel is identical throughout the compartment of the tank. So the FRONT COMPARTMENT may hold a proprietary blend (general out of the spigot plus the additives), the second tank holds regular 87 octane, 3rd holds 89, 4th holds 91 and the 5th holds diesel. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/455498-...
He climbed to the top of his vehicle, carrying the bucket, and opened the three compartment lids on his vehicle to determine the type of fuel each compartment held. He indicated that because the two back compartments opened without releasing pressure, he believed they held diesel fuel and that because the FRONT COMPARTMENT released pressure when it opened, he believed it held gasoline. He stated that he may have been pouring the contents of the bucket into the front compartment when he saw flames coming from the compartment and was thrown from the top of the truck. [ ... ] The exhaust stack for the engine was at the back of the cab on the passenger side, more than 5 feet from the lid of the FRONT COMPARTMENT [ ... ] The discovery of a manhole cover from Vehicle 3 about 750 feet away and the sheared metal on the front half of the tank shell indicate that a subsequent explosion occurred when the FRONT COMPARTMENT on this vehicle failed, which happened because the residue of the materials it contained was overpressured by the radiant heating from the fire on the nearby vehicles. http://www.ntsb.gov/publictn/1999/HZM9901.pdf
According to an eyewitness, as Meek entered the curve in the ramp, the tanker slid to the left. The left rear tire hit the barrier curb and the tanker overturned on its left side. It slid down the connector ramp and hit a second nine-inch barrier curb, rupturing the FRONT COMPARTMENT of the tank. The gasoline ignited, causing an explosion and fire. http://caselaw.findlaw.com/mi-court-of-appeals/1071720.html
Given the context "fifth wheel" doesn't seem impossible. What makes you think it's wrong here ? Can you give us more context ?
