neutral  Michel F. Morin: "Demand" est IMHO beaucoup trop fort ici ("to demand" = "exiger").

-> In energy we speak about demand - in the context of supply versus demand - not necessarily "exiger"

loading pattern

Explanation:
What are we talking about? Underground hydrocarbons storage facilities?
If the water table around the storage cavern rises or falls, the loading pattern (head of water) on the hydrocarbons in the cavern will change. Quite what is meant by chaque réservoir de stockage s’équilibre avec l’aquifère is something of a mystery to me, however: does the level in the cavern vary somehow (does the hydrocarbon seep more into the surrounding rock when the water table is lower, say?)? If this is the case, it stands to reason that each cavern has its own response laws, depending on size and shape (exposure to water pressure), permeability of the surrounding rock, etc.
Or am I way off the mark?

OK, the gas is on top of the brine (in the cavern), but where is this ensemble relative to the aquifère, by which I take it they mean the water table/groundwater, not the water/brine in the cavern?

Notes to answerer
Asker: On the right track all right but I'm not at all sure about your 'head of water', the gas is generally above the water. Unless I'm mistaken, please correct me, a lot the gas is dissolved in brine and there is an interface between the gas and the gas/brine mixture. I may continue when I've got my head around it a bit further. I'm heading towards Kashew's 'use' at the moment

Asker: Quick answer - don't know. Presumably saline cavities can be both above and below the water table. There are no doubt 'layers' of aquifer around the cavities.
