But with one big/key/major difference.

Explanation:
You might find it desirable to stick closer to the French structure, of course, but in English I find it would only complicate matters. "But" has a strength that "mais" does not, so the French needs the extra words.

Maybe you could say "It's just that there's one difference, and an important one at that". But .... I think "but" wins out!
