Grand Master (or simply Master)
Explanation:
In literature from the Buddhist temple that some of my relatives attend, the name of the spiritual leader is usually preceded by "Grand Master" or "venerable Grand Master". I feel that "Master" might be sufficient in this case, though.

neutral writeaway: makes sense for Buddhism in general but I couldn't find it in combination with this person's name or this branch of Buddhism. He was Indian and is referred as great teacher, great master but saw no ref to him as Grand Master
3 hrs
  -> you are right.

disagree cchat: I think Grand Master sounds like Freemasonry rather than Buddhism
9 hrs
  -> funny as it may sound, the title is in use in Buddhism irregardless

agree Clothilde: although Master is preferable, I believe.
