Dr Sue Levy: 12:45pm Feb 2, 2006: "contretype" as a single word -
Dr Sue Levy: 12:51pm Feb 2, 2006: Google polyester + dupe - probably dupe negative but this isn't specified in your text. Maybe the full context will tell. -
Dr Sue Levy: 4:56pm Feb 2, 2006: Super explanation of "contretype" in French here http://unesdoc.unesco.org/images/0005/000586/058641fo.pdf starting page 58 in the text. Basically, it means reproducing the original in the same medium (print to print, slide to slide) -

Explanation:
I think this must be referring to the negative image for the text part of the image (treated separately from the photos), isn't it?

Not sure of the exact technical term, tho'...

GDT does give one possible meaning as 'proof', but this seems unlikely, given that it is on polyester.

contact print

Explanation:
Another possibility, though more context would be helpful.

DEF - A photographic image produced by
the exposure of a sensitized emulsion in
direct contact with a negative or positive
transparency.

OBS - No enlarger is necessary. Images are
reversed as from negative to positive, and
prints can be only the same size as the
negative.

Dupe/negative

Explanation:
If it's in the photo industry, would it be a "dupe"? Or if are you talking about silkscreening or printing a pattern onto material, wouild it be simply "negative" or "pattern"?
