what is "la"? Is it "image", or something that precedes your quote? If "image", then I feel you might have to stress the aspect of "someone who strives/fights/goes through hell to get images/photos". I also feel "image" here has a more intense meaning than just "photo". Sure, photos are a means of conveying an image, but I think it's the CONTENT, the FEELING of the image that is being referred to here (this is me sentiment without fuller context, remember), not the mere support on which that is captured or portrayed. Defender of (the right to benefit from) images? Image sentinel? Champion of graphic portrayal? |

combat (or military) photographer (or cameraman) Explanation: Soldat de l'image is not a civilian war correspndent. He is a uniformed soldier employed by the Military public relations branch to provide photos, film clips and video for distribution to the media in order to enhance the PR effort. See reference for description of French military example. In Canada, the web site for such photos and video is called "combat camera". In the past fifty years, the US term "combat" has generally replaced the term "military" or "battle" or "war" in describing such functions. Reference: Albert Plécy Reference information: As journalist and war correspondent during WWII's Italian campaign, Albert Plécy became aware of the power of an image, a witness to the ugliness of war. |
