Does it mean something like "shading"?

contrast / brightness
Explanation:
I think that logically, this must be referring to the contrast and/or brightness of the image — how dark or light it is, or to what extent it is 'faded out' (attenué); for example, for use as a graphic element behind something else.

Can't say I have any specialist knowledge of this vocabulary, but it is the only thing that seems to me to make sense with the other elements in the list.

fading

Explanation:
Though fading is perhaps also covered under the previous "définition", it could perhaps also be specifically applied to fading the edges, as in vignetting.
