French term or phrase: pratiqué comme éloge du leurre
Essay about Chema Madoz ( http://haha.nu/arts/photography/creative-photos-by-chema-mad... ):

Cette pratique de la « nature morte » façon Chema Madoz s’apparente à un genre très longtemps pratiqué comme éloge du leurre et il le redéfinit en le prenant au pied de la lettre: le trompe l’oeil.

It's late and my brain has clocked off...I can't think of an 'English' way to say this phrase. Here's my pathetic attempt:
..........resembles a genre which artists have dedicated themselves to a eulogy to illusion, and which he redefines by taking it literally: trompe l'oeil.

Perhaps the word for 'éloge' is really praise here, but I don't like it either. I need some inspiration, help!

advocating the allurement

Explanation:
Merely a suggestion to explore...

The way I see it, the sentence is referring to a genre or technique used as a mean to glorify/praise/pay tribute/advocating the allurement
