Hey guys, FINALLY figured it out with the help of another native French speaker - it's speaking of an EMOTIONAL charge, a feeling of suspense added to the scene by the gesture of holding the gun a certain way. So it's more "tension" than "tensor" that was meant. The best word would be "suspenseful." "What does this suspenseful gesture mean?" And Gilla, yes, the commas were exactly as they appeared in the source text. Thanks for the help!

This question looks incredibly difficult!
If the author is a photographer, he may be knowledgeable about things like "image tensors" (mathematical tools relevant to image processing, but this is a non-specific term and could refer to almost anything) and he may be making some sort of inside joke. If this is the case, you would need a real expert in the field, and a lot more context, to figure out what this means. But maybe I'm thinking too hard, and I guess a mathematician like me is going to naturally think mathematics when he doesn't know.
