"on manipule un peu l’appareil muséal à faire le vide. Quel vide ? Grossier, moyen, poussé, ultravide pour reprendre les termes de physique."

Vacuums (or vacua) come in many forms: ultra high (empty space and the LHC), high (less demanding physics applications), medium, and low. The nomenclature is, of course, the wrong way round, since the less gas there is in the chamber, the "better" or "higher" the vacuum is. It's a lot less confusing just to talk about pressure, but of course scientists always use their own forms of shorthand.
