French term or phrase: attacher les soutiens-gorge distribués à leur ceinture
Je ne comprends pas bien ce que l'auteur voulait dire...
Voila tout le contexte extrait du roman 'Tamara'.


: Tamara passa des heures a sa toilette et poutant elle avait rarement ete aussi peu vetue. Elle se demanda serieusement s'il fallait mettre un soutien-gorge ou non, et je n'ai jamais su laquelle de ces deux solutions elle adopta. je pensais comme elle qu'il s'agissait d'un detail important, plus eloquent que les paroles, et dans un domaine que la civilisation aura beaucoup perturbe. Nous evoquames, emus, la disparition graduelle et inexorable d'une innocence qui, il y a encore une vingtaine d'annees, incita les indigenes de certaines missions a attacher les soutiens-gorge distribues a leur ceinture pour pouvoir les utiliser comme des porte-monnaie. L'atmosphere etait positive des le depart.

I doubt that "ceinture" is referring to a belt here. I think this is most probably indicating the "waist," a common use of the word "ceinture," especially for women.

I would imagine they tied the straps around their waist and used the erm... "pouches" for money.
