French term or phrase: Mystique (noun)
I am looking for the translation of "mystique" which fits this definition:

P. anal. Personne qui adhère avec une passion extrême à un idéal artistique, politique, social. Les mystiques de la Révolution. Alors j'ai dit à M. l'abbé que mon mari faisait penser bien souvent à un mystique sans Dieu. − «Quelle lueur! a dit l'abbé, − quelles lueurs les femmes quelquefois tirent des simplicités des impressions et des incertitudes de leur langage!» (Valéry, Soirée avec M. Teste, 1895, p.51).

The line from my text is "des mystiques aux intenses extases".

Explanation:
See reference.
However we need more context. Does your text refer to the French Revolution? "intenses extases" would fit any religious/spiritual use of Mystic in any case.

Explanation:
I think this would work. Originally used in a religious context, it is now applied to everying from lovers of poetry to lovers of coffee!
