Yes, this text is taken from the English translation of Srimad Bhagavad Gita by late Dr. S. Radhakrishnan. Unfortunately, I have but very less knowledge of Sanskrit and therefore cannot evaluate whether this English translation is appropriate or not. Nonetheless, Dr. Radhakrishnan was a very knowledgable scholar and his translation may be considered correct. Also, my main aim was to evaluate the Machine translated French sentence and I was not sure about the connotation of "avide" in French and as suggested I now have answers in each direction.

Compare the different translations given in Termium for "avide" and you can grasp its meaning. I can only repeat what I said; it depends on what the word is associated with:
power hungry, infomation hungry, greedy to become a millionaire, greedy for domination, eager to hear, thirsty for information, longing for love, avid for peace.. up to you then to decide whether it has a positive or negative connotation.
