French term or phrase: bon à tirer machine
This is from an article about luxury paper bags and the various types of manufacturing.

" Quelques marques très haut de gamme, comme la haute joaillerie, exigent un BAT machine."

I found a French site which listed the various steps in printing which showed that the BAT machine comes very late inthe process:
1 - la demande ou appel d'offre
2 - creation du projet et du devis
3 - Choix du prestataire et negociation qui aboutisse sur un bon de commande
4 - Presentation d'une maquette et des books par l'agence choisie
5 - Appel aux intervenants (photographes,...)
6 - Execution PAO
7 - Correction suivant sorties laser
8 - présentation du cromalin par l'imprimeur (sortie papier a partir des plaques qui donne une reel idee des couleurs finales par exemple)
9 - BAT ou bon a tirer
10 - Montage
11 - Signature du Bon a tirer machine
12 - Impression
13 - Livraison
14 - Bon de livraison
15 - Facturation

Does anyone know what this is called in English? Thanks for your help

press check
Explanation:
http://www.graphic-design.com/DTG/Business/printing/presspro...

Finally, we reach the press check. Most people are intimidated by the press check process -- you're in an unfamiliar, noisy, printing plant with people standing around waiting for your final nod. It will be easy to skip steps or be shaken off task -- but you must resist and concentrate on the matter at hand -- guaranteeing a perfect print job.

As soon as the ink is up to run-specifications, the pressman will pull a sheet for you to look at, approve and probably sign off on.

There are plenty of refs on the net explaining this.

pre-press machine

Explanation:
"bon à tirer" means ready to print, so I'm hazarding a guess that the machine is pre-press machine...

neutral Dr Sue Levy: I think that would be the first BAT - at the cromalin proof stage - IMO this is the go ahead once the plates have been mounted and first print run done

-> I agree w/ your neutral. I verified the definition of pre-press, and -- if part of making paper bags at all -- it comes before. I'm stymied though. Mea culpa.
