French term or phrase: facteur parasite
Contexte:

"Nous ajouterons que la très fréquente comorbidité rencontrée de manière générale chez les enfants et les adolescentes, mais tout particulièrement dans les troubles de l'humeur, est également un **facteur parasite** qui peut même parfois écran à la dépression."

I have never read the expression "parasitic factor" when mood disorders are being described. Is that OK or is there something better?

Parasites can do an incredible amount of damage without being the obvious cause. For example, those that live in the intestines can cause digestive problems like flatulence, constipation, or diarrhea. They can cause malnutrition by leeching nutrients from their host, resulting in fatigue, apathy, depression, poor memory and concentration.

disagree  Melissa McMahon: I think this is a misunderstanding of the sense of parasite here: the 'parasitic factor' = "comorbidity" (ie the presence of two or more diseases at the same time), a diagnostic problem, not an actual parasitic disease

agree  Melissa McMahon: Yes, the term refers to a 'factor' in the analysis of *symptoms of* depression in adolescents, not a 'factor' in the depression itself
