"La dimension" means "aspect" here. They're saying that modern psychiatry, being aware of both the experiential and inner world aspect in/of the patient, has allowed for depression to emerge as a psychiatric disease. In other words, the patient's experiences as well as his inner world (how he lives it/understands it) both play a major role in the development of depression.
