suppression / repression 15:45 Nov 5, 2010
IMO this can be read as not only a psychological metaphor but also political.
BUT at the base, the text simply says the piece (perhaps) symbolizes repression and the first act of that is suppression:
e.g. in a political sense, the first step towards a totalitarian regime is to suppress democratic rights such as free speech to pave way for the 'real' repression. That is done by making the public forget what the real function of free speech is.
i.e. The initial act of repression is suppression. Wether or not X or Y agrees or disagrees with Freud about the existence of the unconscious is another matter. |
