This is an article about an artist. She used to paint cheerful, colorful girls, but (because of personal problems) she switched to dark figures in the XY exhibition.

I'm stuck on this "aliénation sentimentale et ses dépendances"

because of sentimental alienation and what result from it
because they are alienated by their feelings and emotions

agree  Alan Douglas: Although I would probably opt for "side effects" rather than "offshoots".

broken relationships and their effects

Explanation:
In this case, "aliénation" is properly translated as "loss" and just as "vie sentimentale" translates as "love life" IMO "aliénation sentimentale" can translate as "broken relationships"

neutral  David Vaughn: You can have a bad "love life" without being in any relationships that "break". One obvious source of alienation is the inability to make relationships. But even if that was the meaning, the author has chosen to obfuscate it for a reason.

I seem to have a trigger happy key board - that should read baggage of course!
