French to English translations [Non-PRO] Social Sciences - Psychology | | French term or phrase: handicap psychique | This term comes up in an article discussing changes in French law from a definition of 'handicap mental' to 'handicap psychique'. (See here for a handy definition of each: http://www.alhpi.com/Nature_handicap.htm)
I have seen the latter variously translated as 'mental handicap' (which fails to distinguish it from its former incarnation), 'psychological handicap' (which to me implies something more like a 'mental block' than a handicap of mental origin), and 'psychic handicap' (which is just plain wrong, in this context).
Does anyone have any other ideas how this might best be translated into English? Many thanks in advance. |
