French term or phrase: acte recu
This appears numerous times in the document.

E.g. "aux termes d’un acte reçu par Maître [name], Notaire à Paris, [date]".

Grateful for comments on whether "...deed received by..." is appropriate here. Thanks!

executed in the presence of ...
Explanation:
Relying on my well-thumbed copy of Bridge, I would suggest that "executed in the presence of (a notary, etc.)" may be better than "received by".

That's great, thanks! Exactly what I thought - 'received' seemed too simple, but I wasn't sure of the best alternative. Many thanks to all contributors.

neutral  Tony M: But it would be unwise to translate 'acte' by 'deeds' in the plural, unless one knows for sure exactly what is being referred to. Again, there is nothing in the context as given to indicate that this is specifically a TITLE deed.

document / file / statement received from Mr.......

Explanation:
< acte > may stand for many things. It may be a document for which I have preference in this case, or just be any file pertaining to a specific case. Since it comes froms a notary public, it most probably may be a Urkunde or document.

disagree  Tony M: No, I'm afraid this is wrong on both counts. To start with, it is 'reçu par...', which means it is this notaire who receives, not issues, the document; and also, unlike the case in your native language, in FR this does NOT mean 'just any old document'.

agree  Tony M: Yes, I wholeheartedly agree that 'reçu' here means a lot more than simply '(physically) received'.
