Description of property in a deed:

La cour au nord est du bâtiment et à l’aplomb de celui-ci pour la portion comprise entre l’entrée et le boulevard xxx et une ligne fictive prolongeant la limite entre le hall numéro 3 et le hall numéro 4 ; ladite cour ayant son entrée par le boulevard xxx entre le bâtiment et la limite séparative de la propriété voisine, limite séparative qui passe au milieu de l’assiette de la voie ferrée, actuellement hors d’usage qui desservait autrefois les propriétés situées tant au fond que de part et d’autre de son tracé.

If your end user is UK, use 'railway'. If US, use 'rail'.
Re Gad's proposal, Ernst gives "seat of a rail" for 'assiette de rail' - in my opinion this is not appropriate in this case for the source term.

Railway bed


Explanation:
L’assiette d'une route (terrestre ou ferroviaire) désigne, en Europe francophone, la surface du terrain occupé par la route et toutes les dépendances indispensables à sa tenue, à savoir la plate-forme, les fossés et les talus. La traduction la plus proche en anglais est "Railway Bed". Ce mot est d'ailleurs utilisé dans les sites parlant de construction de train et reflète à mon sens, l'expression d'assiette de la voie ferrée.

The track on a railway or railroad, also known as the permanent way, is the structure consisting of the rails, fasteners, sleepers and ballast (or slab track), plus the underlying subgrade. For clarity it is often referred to as railway track (British English and UIC terminology) or railroad track (predominantly in the United States).

The term permanent way also refers to the track in addition to lineside structures such as fences etc.

neutral  B D Finch: Though you are absolutely right in your explanation and the "assiette" does include elements to the side of the track and ballast, I am not convinced that "permanent way" does include these. See: http://www.gwsr.com/enthusiasts/jargon-buster.aspx

  -> I think it hinges on what "actuellement hors d’usage" signifies: a disused railway line? You don't get the bed until you lift the rails and sleepers.
