From a list of miscellaneous equipment in an insurance claim survey report for fire damage to a department store. The purchase cost was 1,000 euros. Any help appreciated. Here is more of the list:

Explanation:
Certainly something like that. Whether this was just a sheet of steel (presumably, rather than aluminium, etc.) on which the supermarket name (or "Poissonerie", for example) was painted or some part of a more elaborate illuminated sign I don't know, but at face value I'd go for the simple version.

I'm thinking "fond en tôle pour enseigne, 13 m de long".

Don't know how much a 13 m long piece of sheet steel costs (we don't know the width, mind you), but 1000 euros does seem a lot. Maybe the cost included signwriting.

agree  Tony M: I feel sure it actually does mean the fabricated 'tray' for an illuminated box sign; that would fit more logically to my mind with the use of 'fond'
