I think "rapprocher" is being used here in the sense of "to compare" - ie although the shape of the ovum is round, it should not be compared to the shape of red blood cells which are round, but slightly flattened.

Asker: Feeling-wise I agree with you on this one: if I were to poor this in an image: the ovule is sitting on the 'morphological throne': it's the most spherical cell the human body has ever seen. It makes more sense that all cells should 'meet up' with this cell and not the other way around.
