French term or phrase: tub à scrap
It is obviously exaggerating a bit to call this a French term but it is used in Quebec French and I don't know enough about the domain to know whether the same words are used in English. This term is used in Quebec to describe the large containers used at shipping docks that are hoisted and moved around and used to toss scrap into. I can't find much evidence of "tubs à scrap" or "scrap tubs" on Google. Can anyone suggest what to call this in English? See the link for a photo (GIF, 131K, I uploaded this picture myself to my private webspace and so it is safe). Any suggestions much appreciated!

The fact that you describe them as "containers used to toss scrap into", and that they've chosen to use two English words, makes this a fairly obvious choice. And it gets plenty of Google hits as a container for scrap.

  -> Not wanting to be a bore, but have a look at this (one of many examples): http://rpn.baumpub.com/products/7290/e-scrap-container. Certainly not a freight container. However, if you still think it's too general, a "scrap hopper" may also do the trick.

I wouldn't call the object in your picture a "tub", despite "tub à scraps", because the word conveys an idea of "storage" whereas your object looks like it doesn't hold the scrap for very long, instead scooping it up and dumping into another container (skip, ship's hold). Although the usage could derive from the mining industry as:
