Explanation: Does not necessarily mean he was there in the room. In fact, he was part of the plotbut I don't believe he was present in the room where the meeting was being held during the assassination attempt

Thanks. When I said he was not present, I meant in the meeting room, unlike Stauffenberg who actually left the bomb in an attache case under the table in the hut where Hitler was holding his daily briefing.

Just for the record, according to The Berlin Diaries of Missie Vassiltchikov Stauffenberg left the attache case under the tableand then left the room to answer a pre-arranged phone call. Another officer who found the attache case in his way, moved it aside which probably saved Hitler's life. At 12.42 the hut disintegrated in a cloud of flames and smoke. Stauffenberg, who had been chatting with another plotter, Erich Fellgiebel, then left and took a plane back to Berlin. Unfortunately, there's no more information about Gerstenmeier ... hope this helps :-)
The link you brought proves (in contrast to your comment) that Gerstenmaier was indeed physically present (on the spot) during the assassination attempt, and that's what I needed to know. I quote from your link:
July 20, 1944: Rushes to the Bendlerstrasse (carrying Bible and pistol) to help launch the coup. Like Gisevius, Gerstenmaier begs Stauffenberg and the other conspirators to be ruthless and shoot rather than arrest anyone who offers resistance. Arrested that same evening in the Bendlerstrasse along with Yorck and the others.
Of course you're right - G wasn't physically present, and

'en lice' indeed means 'participated'/'was involved in the plot' - I'll find the right word, the main thing is the facts:-).
I confused Bendlerstrasse with Wolf's Lair.
Thank you very much everyone for your clarifications:-)
he was definitely not in bunker during the bomb attack. there was a coup planned afterwards and thinking Hhtler was dead, they tried a coup d'etat. the bomb was planted by Von Stauffenberg and he left before it went off.

Explanation: here "en lice" means in the forefront and the best way to put it in your sentence seems to be: Gerstenmaier was also present at the time of the attempt against Hitler's life on 20th July 1944.
